Tori Spelling's first memoir is always extremely self-aware: making comments directly to the reader drives the prose downwards, creating an increasingly flippant narrative. What makes this nonchalance acceptable is the wit with which Spelling (with the help of a co-writer) writes. She's a down-to-earth and very funny person, a fact that becomes evident as one gets further into the book. She doesn't sugarcoat matters and never comes off as haughty; she uses years of hindsight to uplift the show more story from mere gossip to psychological portrait of not only herself, but also her complicated family situation. The ins and outs of trying to succeed in Hollywood is particularly enlightening, and while the end of the book drags a bit (there's only so long she can talk about how in love she is), it never strays far from Spelling's overall theme of perception vs. reality. Read this for the juicy gossip, stay for the interesting insight she gives into a childhood and life that far exceed people's comprehension of who Tori Spelling really is. show less

I enjoyed this book. Tori Spelling is intelligent, and witty, and can tell a great story. I found myself frequently laughing out loud, or bookmarking sections to read to DH when he was around. In conversations I would hear myself saying “Did you know that Tori Spelling…..?” or “had you heard that Aaron Spelling….?” I really enjoyed the behind the scenes peak into her life. My one complaint, it that Tori isn’t exactly….linear. She would start telling a story, and I would show more think, “Are we back to 90210? I thought she was married to Charlie? How old is she?” A couple times I would be lost, but in the end, it didn’t really matter, it was an entertaining story none the less. I will definitely be picking up the sequel Mommywood. show less

I didn't watch 90210 as a child, I was a little young for it at the time it was out and was much more into Babysitters Club books at the time. I had a rough idea of who Tori Spelling was, but didn't really think much of her until I started watching the TV series Tori and Dean: Inn Love. I bashfully admit that I'm a bit addicted to the series and find their reality show personas really endearing. Long story to say, that's the only reason I wanted to read this book.

The book is well written, show more the author who wrote it with her did a good job. I was suprised at how it seemed like probably big chunks of her life was left out, but hey - I guess if it's your book you tell your life the way you see it. I also felt like she was more trying to justify her life rather than tell it. But I guess your whole life in the paparazis' eyes can do that to you as well.

I can't say I agree with all of the choices she made in life, but who am I to judge. I especially cringed when she wrote about meeting Dean, cheating on her husband and the consequent divorce. I'm not a fan of that sort of thing and reading her justification was hard. I told my husband after reading the book - "If that was supposed to make me like her more, it really failed."

It was an interesting read and did answer some questions that the reality show brought up for me.

I always love reading Tori Spelling's books. They're a good insight into what her life is like, and they're generally funny. It's always fun reading one of her books. Some authors are kind of boring about their lives, but Tori isn't. She adds the right amount of humor to her books while still talking about some of the hard things she's had to go through. Some people might say it was full of fluff, but I honestly think this was a great read. I cannot wait for Tori's next book.
