This was fast paced and action packed and it was wickedly good. Unlike Alex Rider it's not overly sad and unlike Cherub - I like the main characters. As a reader, I relate to Amy but I love Dan's way of looking at things. They're a great team. Nellie, the au pair, is hilarious. She's laid back and loyal and can speak a seemingly million different languages. The rest of the Cahill family kind of suck, but what's an adventure story without a villain? Or ten? The plot is riveting - the mix of show more fiction and history is fascinating and I'm flying through the series. They're not particularly long - but then this kind of book never is - or at least never feels like it is. I can't wait to read the rest. 4.5 stars rounded up to 5.
I was thinking how good this was compared to the Sword Thief (which I consider to be one of the best in the series) and realised this is by the same author, Peter Lerangis. Clearly - Lerangis has talent. This was a fast ride with lots of history and action and clues. I like the work they have to put in to solve the puzzles and how they go about and Lerangis is very good at writing them. I don't know what's up with Alistar - he's a mess. Hamilton Holt is back! He's kind of becoming my favourite family member (besides Amy and Dan, of course). Although he didn't do as much in this one as he has in other books. Nellie - is she or isn't she? It's killing me not to know...

There's a touch of romance in this between Ian Kabra and Amy. I like how the authors keep giving a little bit of insight in to each of the villains - in this one we read a bit of the story from Ian's point of view - and as much as he's bad he's not totally bad. More of Alistar's background and character is revealed - we learn his father was killed by his uncle (the brother's twin) and that he doesn't have a very good relationship with his uncle. Very intense, very fast paced, I may even go as far as to say, best one of the series yet.

This was the first book in the Seven Wonders series and I have had it to read for awhile. My son (8 years old) and I ended up reading it together. It was a very fun and well done middle grade adventure fantasy. My 8 year old son and I enjoyed it a ton. There are, ironically, five books in the Seven Wonders series. The final book in the series, The Legend of the Rift, will release in March of 2016.
Jack McKinley is an ordinary kid with a desperate problem….he’s going to die any day now. show more Then he wakes up at the Karai Institute where he finds out he possesses a special gene that gives him superhuman powers...if he doesn’t die from it first. Jack, along with the other kids with this strange gene, need to find the seven loculi if they are going to cure their condition once and for all. The loculi just happen to be hidden in the Seven Wonders of the ancient world. Thus starts a crazy adventure full of danger and magic.
My whole family really enjoyed this book. It’s written in a snappy and witty style that moves fast, has some humor in it, and is exciting. The book features four main characters: Jack, Marco, Aly, and Cass. All of them have different abilities and strengths.
I really enjoyed that the kids have to search out the Seven Wonders and deal with some interesting magical characters. We get to learn some of the history behind the Seven Wonders as well. Parts of the book have a tomb raider type of feel to them as well which I enjoyed.
The book ends at a good spot and wraps up nicely.
Overall this was an entertaining and fun adventure fantasy read. Fans of Rick Riordan and Brandon Mull will enjoy this series as well. I enjoyed the snappy dialogue and history and that the book moved at a fast pace The characters are easy to relate to and the story is engaging and interesting. My son and I will definitely continue with the series. This is a series that both middle grade readers and adults can enjoy together! show less

I don't know - there's something about this one that really works.
The story is fast paced, the book is short and sweet. I peaked at it thinking I'd just read a page or 2 and see what it was about. BOOM! Hour later and I'm done. It's such an interesting way to tell the story - with about 8 POV and...all of them are seeing and experiencing nearly the same situations but they all have their own spin on it.
It's the story of one crazy night and each moment is give by a different person. A little show more backstory thrown in just to make sure you know what's what and it's off and running. show less
