New York Recording Laboratories Matrix Series Volume Three The Rodeheaver, March and 2000 Series (1922-1929) by Guido van Rijn
The best produced volume yet. Each page has a facing ilustration -- ads from the Chicago Defender, label shot, previously unseen artist photos. These break up the text and make it much easier to concentrate on the page of text. Also, the graphics restoration is impressive, with many very obscure labels shown. It also contains sections updating new information for the previous two volumes. Delightful.

A beautiful production, replete with new illustrations, makes this a necessary accompaniment to the Max Vreede volume. Meticulous research expands the found items by 20%. Well laid out, clearly organized and printed, this is a necessary addition to the discographer's shelves.
New York Recording Laboraties Matirx Series Volume 5 The 1-1099 Series (1917 - 1922) by Guido van Rijn
This volume finishes the Paramount matrixes. With about 10 books and 20 CDs, and earlier LPs, Guido has provided a mass of research and listening pleasure for the last 35 years or so. Always of the highest quality, the colors and restoration of the illustrationns are especially notable. I'm acknowledged on pages xii and x111, as are many other friends acquaintaintances and collaborators.
