This represents the first biography of Byrne, who was deserving one. His was an extraordinary political life and one that is also an interesting social documentary given how he impacted on generations on Dubliners. His role and presence was so large he became a national figure. He did have his faults, which the author highlights, though overall the book is favourable. As the author says he should be remembered with a statue in Dublin.
An interesting book about being a food critic and being a responsible diner. It's well worth reading for his polemics about ripping people off.
It's major flaw is the fact that by trying very hard to be international he falls between the stools of being Irish and being international. It's worth it for the advice although I don't think I'd be as angry occasionally.
It was also amusing to see the namedropping and the two seperate indices was funny as well, one of the indices is for the show more restaurants mentioned in the text.
He has certain demands from a restaurant and I agree with most of them

Louche-looking Irishman writes about restaurants today and their criticism. Cynical, can't tell who he's dissing - the restuarants, the reviewers or the whole world.
