I loved this book for its honest portrayal of the difficulties faced by the men & woman on the ground in what has turned out to be another failure of war in Afghanistan

Account of a soldier on the front line in Afghanistan. Fairly horrific accounts of the fighting, punctuated by moments of humour. Would recommend if you like books on the military

A straight to the point account of all the skirmishes and ambushes of every kind the author was involved in, there's not much in the way of personal relations amongst the soldiers or day to day life in the war zone. In a really nice touch the author reserves most of his personal opinions about how the conflict is handled by the higher ups for the epilogue, where he also offers an update on what (and how) he and the others were doing months after the facts.

In my opinion what the book lacks in literary quality it more than makes up for with its simplicity and innate honesty.… (more)

Although it did not always bring to life the war in the way I had expected, this has been very useful in providing background on the conflict for the children's story I am writing.
