About the Author
When Harrod Blank discovered that his '65 VW Beetle made a great canvas for self-expression, the result was Oh My God!, which became the catalyst for his eccentric career. Initially, Blank thought he was the only person in the world with an art car, but he soon met kindred enthusiasts all over show more America and began to document the artists and their cars, drawing on lessons from his father, filmmaker Les Blank, and the B.A. in Theater Arts/Film he obtained from the University of California in Santa Cruz. Blank's debut documentary film, Wild Wheels, was broadcast on PBS as a National Special in 1992 and his photography was featured in a companion book of the same name Blank also created Driving The Dream, a 30-minute documentary that premiered in 1997 on National Geographic Explorer. A feature-length sequel to Wild Wheels will be released in fall 2002. Blank served as guest curator of an art car exhibit at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, and he co-produces the annual ArtCar Fest in the San Francisco Bay area.
