Alive at 5 is the romance suspense debut from Linda Bond who was a television reporter and just so happens that’s what the heroine Samantha Steele is. No time is wasted in throwing you right in the middle of the action. How these two first meet was defiantly a new one. Zack Hunter is a police officer and has gone undercover to try and find out how his uncle died. It’s tied into a company that provides adventure vacations. Zack is currently on a skydiving excursion and when it comes time for him to land there is a woman directly in his way with no way to avoid her. Samantha Steele is their along with her camera man to film all the adventures her mentor will be doing with the adventure company. Problem is when its his turn to jump there is a problem on the way down and he dies before hitting the ground. It doesn’t take Samantha long to figure out that Zack isn’t there for just the thrill seeking, that he lost someone too on one of the trips. So these two forge a alliance to basically go undercover together to figure out who is murdering the clients of the adventure group.

If you like your romantic suspense fast paced with plenty of action scenes this is defiantly one you wont want to miss.

I gave this one the old college try, but this book is just not for me. I didn't care for the characters. Antonio was an angry a-hole, and Rebecca lacked depth. The romance between the two was not believable for me. There was no warmth or emotion to it.

Given my profession, I am also at odds with the alien smuggling. At around 67%, in regard to bringing Cubans over on a private boat and landing at a marina, Rebecca states that they "did it the right way" and "didn't break any laws." This is absolutely untrue. It is unlawful to bring undocumented immigrants into the US. You can be prosecuted under 18 USC 1324, 1325 and 1326... and any vessel/conveyance used in the transportation is subject to seizure and forfeiture. So I didn't like how they blew that off as a non-issue.

I started skimming at around 40%, then abandon it officially by 76%. There were some positives - I love the cover, and the descriptions of Cuba were interesting and unique. Dawg, the videographer, was funny sometimes (but the humor was forced at others).

I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Unfortunately it just was not for me.

Completely entertaining and intriguing story. Lovers of romantic suspense will want to put this one on the top of the TBR pile! He's an undercover cop chasing a loved ones killer. She's a reporter chasing the story that will save her job. Working together they will track down the killer and hopefully come out alive! A great story that I highly recommend.
