He was commended in a resolution in 1959 by the Territorial House of Representatives. It acknowledged his fifty years as a practicing kahuna, and noted that he had long been a high priest of the Sons and Daughters of Hawaiian Warriors, a group of 100 with demonstrated lineage to the court of Kamehameha. I knew David Bray and remember when he first wrote this small introductory book on Ancient Hawaiian Kahunas. It's a simple piece and by today's standards not really a fact filled 'text book' but rather a small pamphlet type booklet more of as an introduction, than a detailed account. David wasn't an Author by trade. He was a Kahuna, and a musician. Surprisingly, many new agers today use this as a reference to modern Kahunaism, not its original intention, but 40+ years later, times have changed as well as perspective on an ancient Hawaiian cultural tradition.… (more)
