Another paranormal book about an assassin and the "fated" love of his life, a woman who is unwittingly thrust into his path as she is escaping an abusive relationship. Mistrust and trustworthiness, kindness and brutality and other jarring juxtapositions are well-written but strain the liimts of believablity...much like Mission Impossible and Jason Bourne. It seems that "good" people can do awful things for "good" reasons and without any consequences. Definitely escapist (beach) lit...and just as definitely an escape from rationality. What is it that makes this kind of writing so compelling? As a Christian, I am the more and more puzzled by how this is so common, firstly, but secondly, and much more disturbing, why I take the time to read this kind of fantasy.
