Written with humor and heart, this evil queen retelling takes a lot of tropes and turns them on their heads. The evil queen is evil, yes, and she has a horrid backstory as is often the case with villains, but she actually cares about her people and ruling well and saving lives. She's a complete mess, and she has a lot to learn. And it's entertaining to watch her figure it out.

Alora Carter is a new voice to the world of fairy tale retellings, but her stories are original and filled with twists and turns I would have never thought of. She is a storyteller to watch for. And I can't wait to see what she will write next.
