At its time the best thing of its kind, and still mighty useful. Who will produce an equivalent volume for the subsequent four decades -- and on this same high level of achievement?!

Extremely concise -- most entries only a few lines -- chiefly lists officers' ranks and the ships they sailed in, ships they captured and whether they were captured themselves (as many were). Often the capture is te last entry and one wonders if they died in prison hulks, though some are recorded as having escaped or been released. Almost no biographical information beyond their professional navy life.
