Awaking Wonder stands as the best nonfiction book I have read in 2020. Sally Clarkson’s heart for encouraging parents to embrace wonder resonates on every page of the book. She offers fascinating insights into her personal journey as she presents her case for the importance of cultivating wonder. She challenges parents to strive for ideals and model attributes they want their children to emulate. Yet, she balances ideals with real life realities such as household chores and family show more conflicts. Near the end, she discusses openly what she would have done differently.

Reading Awaking Wonder felt like sitting down with a wise, beloved mentor. I felt affirmed in my choice to homeschool. Certain suggestions and ideals inspired me to strive for excellence. Most importantly, the author’s encouragement infused me with excitement and joy to continue our homeschooling journey.

I recommend Awaking Wonder: Opening Your Child’s Heart to the Beauty of Learning by Sally Clarkson to all homeschooling parents. Though the concepts of the book can be applied by all parents, the heart of this book is centered on homeschool-style education.

Disclosure of Material Connection: I was provided a copy of this book by the author or publisher. All opinions in this review are my own.

I am not sure how to write a review for one of the best parenting books I have ever read. Every single page was inspiring. I have continually read tons of books on parenting to gather skills that I did not learn and instill virtue in my own heart. Sally and Clay have written something I will read again and again. I have already purchased the study book so that I can work my way back through it. Read it. If you see Sally out and about, ask her if she will come live with me.

This book will help show more you realize the time you have with your kids is precious and how to number the days you have with them. You will be equipped to nurture your child's spirit, guard their heart, renew their mind, and shape their will/character. In the process, yours will be shaped and formed as well. It is full of what is good, true, and beautiful.

My favorite line:

"Only you-parents alive in Christ because of the Holy Spirit within you-have the ability and power of the Spirit to make your home a Christian home. Engagement with Christian culture does not define a Christian home; engagement with the living Christ does."

This book was graciously given by Tyndale House for review.

Even though I don’t have kids, I still found this a really intriguing read.

We all have people in our lives we can invest in, children or otherwise. I’m blessed to have two nieces and a nephew, and this encourages and challenges me, giving shape to how I can speak into their lives and be a godly mentor and loved one. I was particularly convicted by the reminder to treasure things up in my own heart, which made me think about what I spend my time dwelling on—is it wise and worthy stuff, show more or shallow, with no lasting value?

I want to speak well into their lives, and this will help guide me to do that well in future. Words of affirmation are my own love language, and this deepened my understanding of that and how I can live into it well with myself and others.

I received an eARC of the book from the publisher via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

There is no greater, nobler, or more fulfilling calling than that of motherhood. Every day, as they nurture their children, mothers influence eternal destiny as no one else can. Yet often women are drawn to seek fulfillment outside of God's design, despite their inherent desire to embrace motherhood with their whole hearts.

Today's culture minimizes the vital importance of a mother's role. By catching a vision of God's original design and allowing it to shape their lives, mothers can show more rediscover the joy and fulfillment to be found in the strategic role to which God has called them - for a purpose far greater than they can imagine.

In "The Mission of Motherhood", author, speaker, and mother Sally Clarkson closely examines this God-ordained plan for mothers, introduced in the book of Genesis and upheld throughout his Word. Using practical examples, her own personal anecdotes, a challenging vision, and sound scriptural support, Clarkson upholds the traditional, biblical view of God's plan for motherhood - giving mothers exactly the support they need to persevere in cultivating and sharing their hearts for God, for their children, and for their homes.
