Old-fashioned Scare

An old fashioned creepy tale that will immerse you into the world of an old village and pumps your imagination. The author brings character and detail, making the story authentic. At times a little redundant, but a great read overall. If you enjoy pondering what lies in the mist, this story is for you.

I really enjoyed this spooky tale. I appreciated the author's idea of pulling scary entities from different cultures an religions, allowing the reader to learn knew things while reading a work of fiction. While the story does skip around to different points of view, the author does a great job of marking changes in POV while sticking with the flow of the novel. The cliffhanger at the end has me waiting for the sequel.

Haunted house stories are easily one of my favorite things to read, and this one was pretty good. It accomplished that fun-but-spooky adventure sort of thing that I love, but I noticed that it had a hard time keeping my attention at times, and because of that it actually took me a bit to finish. I did enjoy it though. The characters were well done and the author did a good job of describing and laying out what was going on in a pretty bizarre and complicated house. One of my only real gripes is the neighbor and her “group”. It seemed pretty random and overkill and didn’t add much to the story for me. Besides that, I had a pretty good time.

I very much enjoyed this book! The twist on a group of teenagers in a haunted house was interesting. I have only one criticism: in the early part of the book, I felt the characters were not fleshed out enough, so whilst they were relatable, they could have been developed more. However, there were some quite creepy moments in the book and overall, it was a very enjoyable read!
