If you're a fan of Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, or Will Wilder, you will enjoy this debut by D.E. Cunningham. Written because the author knows that it's hard to be a kid, readers will enjoy 11-year-old Marco Swift. He is very protective of his family and will do anything to save them. Forced to move to a new continent, Marco faces bullies, monsters, magic, and his past in order to save his mother and sister.

This fast-paced adventure forces us as readers to quickly flip the pages, anxious to know how Marco will learn how to tell good from evil and to ultimately find out who he really is. However, not everyone else is who they say they are or pretend to be. At the same time, Marco must deal with the memories of the death of his father and the mental decline of his mother. Cunningham makes this very accessible and relatable to middle schoolers in his interesting magical characters and quests.

I found it to be a very enjoyable middle-grade fantasy and mystery. I look forward to more books by this author.
