This book is filled with facts about Octopuses. And is super informative to what they do as animals. I would use this in first or second grade just because I think that is when kids are developing their sense of what they like to read and how long they will give something the time of day. Along with that I would just have it on the shelves so even if they aren't wanting to read it they are able to look at the pretty pictures.

Kids love pop-up books and they engender a need to "care for the book" since the pop-ups are fragile. In this sturdy board book, the endangered animals are sparingly illustrated in soft-yet-bold coloration. Young readers will love the element of pop-up illustrations as they give a more thorough sense of the creatures presence. Subtle, but real.

The scope of creatures dying out of existence since they are "endangered" may be beyond the youngest readers; yet with repetitive reads, they can begin to understand the animal's plight.

The world-wide sense of creatures disappearing is given as each animal's locale is noted as well as a brief, informative, descriptive statement about the animal.

A good book to have around for children to begin to understand the plight of many of Earth's animals.

I received a complimentary copy from the publisher to facilitate a review. Opinions are mine, alone and are freely given.

Animals that Need Help

Some animals have such small numbers that they may disappear without help. This book has pop-ups of fifteen such animals. Because they are so beautifully done, each one will be memorable to little ones. Additionally, the names and the world locations are given of every animal.

Once a year, we recognize this planet and our responsibility to take care of it. This book is both adorable and gives a message to little ones about the fragile state animals are in. This is a good choice to make that point. I liked all of the animals, but my favorite is the North American Rusty Patched Bumble Bee.

Hard-backed and well-made, this five-star book will be enjoyed by children ages three to seven. Younger ones would like it, too, if they are supervised!

Thank you, Candlewick Publishing, for providing Tickmenot with a book to review. Opinions are my own.
