This is a bright and colorful book that truly embodies a growth mindset. We all know the frustration of not being able to do something. This story provides relatable scenarios that children experience and teaches them the power of perseverance and not giving up when something gets hard. Readers are encouraged to embrace the power of yet and keep trying. This is a vibrant story that will have all readers finding their own Magical Yet.

The text is pretty bland, but my four-year-old loved the illustrations -- especially running her fingers over the texture of the glitter. I liked that the book sent the message that too much glitter can be a bad thing. I'm not sure if it will get though to the intended audience, but at least the author tried to temper the glitter mania that ravages clothing, carpets, etc.

In the grand tradition of books that talk to their readers (see also: I Will Chomp You, The Book With No Pictures), this Very Cranky Book does not want to be read: "You should go find something else to do." The cranky book insists "there is no story time today!" at which a pink-covered book with a gold crown and wings announces, "Gather round, friends. Story time is about to begin!" Feeling jealous and left out, the cranky book allows as how they've had a change of mood, and offers, "Let's read together, but not with all these other books - just you and me. Okay?" The art was created with "an actual book" and "Photoshop magic."

Just silly enough to coax a cranky reader out of a bad mood, and visually lively. Could be a good choice for storytime!
