Gave up half way through. It had no connection with S&S at all for me and the nasty modern story did not appeal.

just kind of blah, boring.

Grabbed this randomly off the new arrivals shelf at the library. The cover touts "Elin Hilderbrand meets..." I don't love Hilderbrand's writing so I should have known to put it right back on the shelf. Oh, well.

Who doesn’t love a wedding? Especially a society wedding with dysfunctional families in a Mansion with a beautiful backdrop. Secrets are everywhere in this story, slowly unfolding. A prodigal daughter returns home for her sisters wedding to a town where she really doesn’t want to be. As with any wedding, there is drama thanks, in part, to an Instagram Gossip site, mothers who can’t get along and adult children who try to make things work.

For me, this story was overly descriptive, which took away from the storytelling. I found myself skimming some sentences. The details of some situations were not fully explained. I found the characters lacking in depth and fairly one dimensional, self centered.

Thanks to Harlequin Trade Publishing andNetGalley for this ARC. Opinion is mine alone

I found out after choosing Ladies of the House by Lauren Edmondson that it is a retelling of Sense and Sensibility. I am generally not a fan of retellings. That being said, it's been a really long time since I read Sense and Sensibility. So, I can read and enjoy this story independently, without constantly comparing it to the original. I enjoy going along on Daisy's journey. I appreciate the book most for the message about self-discovery and self-definition regardless of family baggage and outside expectations.

I have never been one for the classics, and when I first read Sense and Sensibility, it just did stick with me; it didn't resonate with me as they say!

So when I chose this ARC, I was lucky to have forgotten all about the original book and went into this one as if I had never read the other. I'm glad I did that. It made this book all that enjoyable to me. I spent no time whatsoever comparing the two novels.

I enjoyed the look into dirty politics, misappropriation of funds, scandal, cheating on one's wife, and unrequited love! The difficulties that the mother and two sisters had to deal with were phenomenal, and how they dealt with them was even more so.

I am so glad I read this novel, and I would like to thank the publisher and the author for letting me do so.
