SPOILERS

This was one of my all time favourite books back in the mid 1970s when I was at primary (elementary) school. I have no idea if my copy is still sitting in a box at my parents home, so my review is going by memory alone.

Basically, Anton is a new immigrant to Australia along with his parents, They escaped from Germany during or just after WW2. They now live down near the harbour of an Australian city. Anton and his family are called "New Australians." They may be living in Sydney. Possibly Sydney Harbour - but long before the Sydney Opera house was built.

During the summer, Anton mets up with a small group of boys who live in - let me see if I can still remember the spelling - Racquetier Street - but called Racketty street by the locals. Along one side of Racketty street are several shipbuilding businesses. One of them has a big fat man named Tommaso employed as a security guard.

At the end of the street are several financial institutions and high caliber businesses. I think Anton's father has been lucky enough to get a job at one of those institutions. The boys eventually discover what Tommaso and his employers are really up. Something about a tunnel to the nearest bank and possibly a heist.

Sad to say I cannot remember the ending of the story. It's been close to 40 years since I last read this book. Todays Date is 20 January 2020.
