The Toxic Female Gaze by Liz Fe Lifestyle is published as a BLANK. The synopsis says ‘People talk a lot about the male gaze and how harmful it is to women but little is spoken about the female gaze and the harm it causes.’ After finishing the entirety of this short book, I would say that I was not able to appreciate it as much as I thought I would have. I felt like this book was written like a high school student who decided to turn their 7-page essay into a short novel for the extra credit points. This book was too drawn out and very repetitive with the statements; I felt like every chapter addressed the same few things and then the last bit of the book was just questions the author wanted the audience to ask themselves in a guided reading group/book club. More so, this book provided many “statistics” and “facts” that is not common knowledge, and should have been provided with in-text citations as to where the writer had retrieved their sources, otherwise this is known as plagiarism and is illegal. It also just would have made sense formatting-wise for this book to appear better. Finally, I feel like I have to be nit-picky, but the font the author uses on the last page of every chapter for the quotes is way too hard to read. I feel like a plainer font—something more subtle and not too expressive would have fit much better. Overall, I would say that I was not a fan of this book. At all. I would not recommend this to my family, friends, or anyone who is interested in reading anything accurate about “the toxic female gaze.”
