A group of young carolers go from house to house singing a line or two of favorite Christmas carols. As they progress though the neighborhood, their numbers swell as members of each household join them until the original group of five has now become a choir of thirty-three children and adults singing “Joy to the World”, and the whole neighborhood is wishing the reader a “Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.”

The first lines of “O Come, All Ye Faithful,” “O Little Town of Bethlehem,” “The First Noël,” “Away in a Manger,” “Hark! the Herald Angels Sing,” "We Three Kings," "Silent Night," "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear," "What Child Is This?" A nice story about learning to respect a family member and communicate together. This reminded me of my own seamstress grandmother who would often make me beautiful clothes that I didn't want to wear because they were itchy. I surely hurt her feelings many times over this issue. In a curriculum I would use this book to talk about communication and respect for elders and family members. It could also be used in talking about the different states and Hawaiian culture.

We have been enjoying this book for years now. I love how for each carol, there is a scene of modern-day carolers spreading God's love, as well as a scene from what the first Christmas may have been like. This book really helped get us into the spirit of caroling and helped the kids learn the songs. Also, there is musical notes to help instrumentalists! Take it with you caroling!
