Baby Halder

This is the story of Baby Halder who faces poverty, violence and abuse throughout her life. She was born in West Bengal and was abandoned by her mother at the age of four. She was mistreated by her step mother and got married at twelve to a violent man, and became a mother herself at thirteen. She tries to escape poverty , and violence by running away from home with her children and finds work as a domestic help. Though her education is meagre one of her employers has faith in her and encourages her to write a book about her life. This book become an overnight literary sensation in India.
