This is a heartfelt and inspiring story about a young girl who courageously takes on the challenging task of restoring the once-lush forest near her village. The task proves to be harder than she initially thought, but she never gives up, and eventually, she inspires her whole village to share her dream. It brings to mind the real-life tale of Jadav Payeng, who single-handedly planted tens of thousands of trees over four decades. Like him, it took her a lifetime to revive the forest, but her efforts not only transformed the lives of her community but also ensured a more promising future for the next generations. It’s also beautifully illustrated, with bright and vibrant colors. Overall, I think this is a great book to teach the youngest readers to care about the planet as well as to never give up on their dreams! I highly recommend it!

Thank you, LibraryThing, the publisher Nosy Crow US, and authors Caryl Hart and Anastasia Suvorova (Illustrator) for the gifted copy! I received a free copy of this book, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

“The Girl Who Planted Trees” is a story of a young girl who was determined to make the world a more beautiful place. The top of a local mountain was once covered in trees, but over the years they had been cut down. The young girl wished the mountain was still covered in trees and set out on a mission to plant them. The girl had to overcome many obstacles to achieve her goal. With perseverance, hope, and help from her village, the young girl helped to restore the mountain to its former beauty. This book was beautifully illustrated and an enjoyable uplifting story.… (more)

This book is for my granddaughter. The protagonist is a young girl (at the beginning) who has a vision and the determination to make her vision come true. She sticks to her goal in spite of setbacks, and with her grandfather's help (I liked that!) eventually sees her vision realized. Even when she is old she still rejoices in her realized vision.
