While sometimes one questions the need to read about the ongoing finances of the SACA, Harte's writing is never dull and we get to hear about written complaints regarding men urinating in Adelaide Oval baths alongside the feats of Giffen, Hill, Bradman, Grimmett, Richardson, Chappell and co. It's also fascinating to read of the machinations behind recruiting Bradman and Grimmett, almost recruiting the great Jack Hobbs and losing Greg Chappell.
It's now somewhat out of date and one would love to see a new edition covering up to the present, although one presumes it won't be Harte as he has blotted his copybook somewhat since the publication of this tome.½
