Biographies tend to concentrate on different things. This one being written by someone who shared a law office with him tends more to be a memoir. It gives intimate details that others might not cover, and does not cover some things that others might concentrate on. It might not be as thorough as a more modern work, but it is an early biography by someone who knew him intimately, and therefore is full of interesting anecdotes that might be missed by a more scholarly work. It is valuable because it is an early first hand look at his life.

I felt it to be important to read as part of my study of the greatness of Abraham Lincoln.

Abraham Lincoln was humble. He listened patiently to those who criticized him even when they were unaware of who they were talking to.
