What an interesting premise. There is a machine that you can hook up to a recently deceased person and take the memories of their death. The detectives then can experience the crime first person to help them salve the crime. Of course, with people being the way they are, the machine gets used in other ways, too BUT it was designed for crime solving. The police officer can see the crime as many times as needed to look for more clues, hear voices, smell things, etc. They will fell the pain but really be injured. I am going to have to read the rest of this series.
In this one, the criminal was a serial killer and he would actually talk to the detective while doing the killing. It became very personal. The previous detective on the case went insane as all the people he saw their memories ended up staying with him. Definitely makes the machine more scary.

When I saw that this book was coming out, I knew I had to read it. I was really excited, because I absolutely loved the first book. While this one is different, I'd like to think it's just as good but in a different way. Not as violent but still action packed and mysterious. I'm glad to get to know John Barnes all over again.
