- Grace Elvina Hinds was born in Alabama, USA, a daughter of J. Monroe Hinds, a former diplomat, and his wife Lucy Trillia. Her first husband was Alfred Huberto Duggan of Buenos Aires, Argentina, with whom she had three children. His death left her a wealthy widow with large estancias in South America. In 1917, at age 38, she married as his second wife George, Lord Curzon, the former Viceroy of India and a leader in Parliament. He was created Earl of Kedleston and Marquess Curzon of Kedleston, making her Marchioness Curzon of Kedleston. Her portrait was painted by John Singer Sargent.
