Another great book by Brian Kennedy! I hope to write my full review soon, but I highly recommend this book for anyone who loves hockey!

Kennedy is an ass. The initial part of the book can be a pleasant read - the writer does come off as excessively timid and whiny, but you can still enjoy. Then he grows up and instead of "growing up" he gets more timid, far more whiny and adds on an air of superiority which is solely related to the accident of his birth in Canada. The guy doesn't watch a single NHL game for years -but he is more hockey than Americans, he brags about his non-existent superiority at broomball (the others all played too rough) at Miami U and vaguely mentions attending a few university games. Miami had (still does) a D1 hockey team. Hello loser - if you were such a hockey lover, you would have had season tickets while you were there and during his stints at various schools in Ohio - there were a number of minor league teams he could have driven too. He talks of quizzing alleged American hockey fans and having them come up short - even though he doesn't know the stuff they do and he goes to something chaired by a former NHLer and couldn't be bothered to learn anything about the guy in advance. Apparently suggesting to people that they donate their belongs to the Hockey Hall of Fame (note other people donate THEIR stuff) makes him superior - I'd say it makes him an ass (these weren't cases of people not caring for or wanting to discard of items). He covers the Ducks as a member of the media and totally crosses the line by acting like a fan - not cool - but despite that, since he is only covering their home games - he wants the Cup won in Anaheim and would prefer Ottawa win it there than the Ducks win on the road for his benefit. He breaks the law during his time in London and thinks being a hockey fan is an adequate excuse. Oh and all American "memories" fail when compared to the Henderson goal. He even dismisses a kids team on a flight as surely their trophies were from participating - no way they could have ever beaten a Canadian team. Gag a Maggot. This guy is a loser. He refers a number of times to maybe having his own children at some point and all I can say is I hope not. The half star is for the first few chapters and to make it clear that this was low rated whlie the total absence of stars might register as not having been rated rather than being rated a 0.… (more)
