A very useful version of the Old English text with modern English translation beneath.
Naturally the translation is somewhat dated - to be expected in a work first published over 100 years ago! - but it still gives the reader a good idea of the content of the original without the hassle of having to translate it oneself (vital for researchers who are pushed for time) and in a style which is evocative of the religious rhetoric being put to use both by Gregory and Alfred, something which it is possible would be missing from a translation into modern idiom and which would risk rendering the text soulless.… (more)
