This was a fun little book to read with my kids. It is a short little book about the many animals that can be located and discovered in Africa. My children enjoyed listening to it as I read it to them for their 20 minutes of reading time. They learned a few new things and so did I. I think it is a good book for any child that has an interest in learning more about the animals within the world that they live.

Daughter really loved this one and the one with the sun. They are great for an early reader as it is a bit funny for littles and has bright and colorful pages.

Doctor Dolittle doesn't understand people, but he can talk to animals. His very best friends include a duck, a dog, a pig, and a parrot, and he has more pets than his house will fit!

Doctor Dolittle would do anything for his animal friends. But when the monkeys get sick, can he save them in time?

A short board book about the seasons is narrated by Tigger, one of the Super Sleuths from one of the only Pooh shows I could not make myself watch in full. Some little mysteries, puzzles, activities, and cloud facts are crammed in, but this just doesn't do much for me, much like the show.

(Pooh Project: Phase 2! I've managed to catalog all the shorter Pooh projects my family owns (see the list here). While I work through few remaining longer Pooh books we own, I'm missing my daily dose of Pooh, so I'm going to start seeking out some of the Pooh books I don't own – yet – from libraries IRL and online. See the reviews here.)

When you'll buy almost any book your toddler daughter wants at the grocery store, twenty years later you may find yourself holding on to strange, impossible-to-shelve things like this: a Care Bears board book with a Cheer Bear puppet attached in the middle.

Rather than a story, it's more an interactive experience, with the puppet asking the child to count and find objects on the page that are different colors and shapes. In theory you can use Cheer Bear to gesture toward parts of the page or interact with the child by shaking hands and hugging. My big fingers, constricted by the frame of the book, have trouble getting the puppet arms to do much more than clap.

There's a certain goofy appeal, but it doesn't last long.

Oooh, this looks so baaaaad! The art is over-rendered to the point of being ugly. Eeyore has so much tone and so many wrinkles that he starts to look nude instead of being a donkey that doesn't wear clothes. Weirdly uncomfortable!

And the story isn't great either. Once again Eeyore's tail is lost, this time up in a tree. A Super Sleuth is added every page to give a counting aspect as they try different things to get the tail down. The problem is that the author couldn't seem to decide between a story in rhyme or a story in prose, so she just throws couplets in every so often, and that just grates on me.

And then to really annoy me, the publisher reused the same ISBN (1403781761 / 9781403781765) on several different books including the very similarly titled but definitely distinct My Friends Tigger & Pooh: Count on Us! (a book where the Super Sleuths count insects, butterflies, flowers and honey pots). It was a hassle getting it sorted out on LibraryThing and Goodreads.

(My Pooh Project: I love Winnie the Pooh, and so does my wife. Having a daughter gave us a chance to indoctrinate her into the cult by buying and reading her every Pooh book we came across. How many is that? I’m going to count them this year by reading and reviewing one every day and seeing which month I finally run out. Track my progress here:

Short and sweet but it breaks down each one of the presidents in simple words and facts for children to understand. This book is an older book since it doesn't have the two most recent presidents but still, it's very informative.

This book is a good reminder for adults, and a great teaching point for small children. Counting blessings is something that we so often forget to do and we get complacent with all of the "things" we have in life that sometimes we forget to remember that they are blessings. This book breaks counting your blessings down in a simple way that makes it easy for children to understand.

This cute little book counts out the months and tells you what little penguins do while also comparing the things you do. This would be a great book to help children with the months of the year.

Animal Kids: Cubs, Chicks and Pups.- Kathryn Knight

A book for a younger class, a good read for pre-school and kindergarten, it teaches what different animal babies are called.

I actually found this to be informative, I knew the different names for baby animals but there were some that I just learned after reading. Goes to show you that the saying is true, “You learn something new everyday”.

1- incubate chicken eggs in class
2- For a younger classroom, assign baby animal names to groups if desks are arranged in clusters and create a musical chairs type of game.

Summary:
This book is about animal babies and what they are called. It tells the reader the characteristics of animals babies that have certain names, such as pups, cubs, and chicks. There are pictures of animal babies and their mothers.

Personal Reaction: I actually learned why some animal babies are called calves and pups. I never knew why some animal babies were called the same as others.

Classroom Extensions:
This book would be a great book to read before going on a field trip to the zoo. The teacher could also review some of the facts out of the book at the zoo.
This book could also be read when learning how to categorize animals. It can show the children there are many ways to categorize animals.

Summary
This is an informational book about animals and their babies. It tells all of the different names for their babies, as they vary by animal. This book also shows that by animal who is the caregiver, how long they stay with the parents, and what their parent’s jobs are. This book tells whether the babies come from eggs or not. This book also talks about play time and bath time.
Personal Reaction
I think this book is great and very relatable to the age of children that I would really like to work with. I think that although it is an informational book there would be a lot of things that could be done with it in the classroom.
Classroom Extension
1. Animals and habitats
2. Field trip to the zoo, state fair, petting zoo, or even livestock show.

This book is great for young children! It uses a lot of nonsense words which kids will be tested on in elementary school. Ernie and Bert are favorites of many young children so they will love this book!

From the Hercules beetle of South America to the hissing cockroach of Madagascar, children—and adults, too—will enjoy learning about some of the creepy, crawly, and of course, amazing insects found around the world! Written for children ages 6-9, this book represents one installment of a nature series that pairs reading and scientific curiosity. Each page boasts artfully captured photographic images of the insects in their native habitats, illustrating not only the finite details of the species but also the environment in which they can be found. The text is constructed with descriptive language that conveys sound, emotion, and useful analogies to pique children’s interest and enhance understanding. Despite relatively short sentence structure and preponderance of “sight words,” there are a number of content-specific vocabulary terms that are likely to pose challenges for inexperienced readers. As such, this visually and textually detailed “easy reader” provides a fantastic opportunity for children and adults to share in an educational experience by joining together to read.

This informational book aimed at children in grades 1 through 3 provides interesting information about fascinating salt and fresh water fish species from sharks to salmon. The watercolor-like illustrations provide colorful and lifelike representations that will fascinate and educate young children. The colors change between pages, but most are based in greens or blues and the fish are colored as they are in nature. Each page presents a different fish species and contains about half text and half illustration. Amazing Fish of the World will engage children who already have an interest in marine life and may spark an interest in those encountering such information for the first time. The dangerous qualities of some fish, however, are described in detail, which may frighten some timid children. This book is recommended for children, especially those with an interest in the subject matter. Amazing Fish of the World would be well placed in an elementary science classroom.½

As an avid Power Rangers fan I liked this book (I have every episode of Power Rangers on DVD aside from the Samurai series which I haven't started, yet).
I was astounded to discover this was written by one of my favorite authors under a pseudonym! (Kathryn Lasky).
