A right silly book, very much of its time. Henry Potts, an unsuccessful writer living in a dreary boarding-house, is given the use of an old typewriter after he loses his own. The typewriter turns out to be possessed by the ghost of its former owner, a debonair writer of pulp fiction, with a voice resembling that of the late George Sanders. Potts finds himself not only typing the stories dictated by the ghost of P.W. Arnold, but living them, in the body of Captain Gregory Dangerfield, a bronzed, sinewy hero.
While the adventures are terrifying to the mild Potts, the rewards are many, female, and enthusiastic though fictional. But like most ghosts, Arnold has an unfinished task to complete, and Potts is his tool to achieve it. Each pulpy, breathless episode takes him closer to finding the woman both Dangerfield and Arnold love, and rescuing her from the dreadful arch-villain who may be too deadly an opponent for even the dashing Captain Gregory Dangerfield.
