Book 2, it might help to read book 1 to get a better insight into Bob's character. However, the book works as a standalone. Bob Singleton is on the move to keep his head down, headed South. But Bob struggles and sticks his nose into business which gets him into trouble. There are various character perspectives to show who Bob is as a character and how others perceive Bob, particularly those in the CIA and the people Bob encounters while on the run. There is plenty of action in this descriptive story.

Blood Debt by Ian Loome
Rogue Warrior #2

Bob was a boy when his father started to teach him hunting and survival skills and though it was not his favorite thing to do, he became very VERY good at it. These skills would help Bab Singleton as he became a US Marine and then later in his position working for the CIA in black ops.

Bob was introduced in the first book as a homeless alcoholic on the streets for nearly a decade. He proved to be brilliant, quick, and deadly with an unquestionable moral compass. At the end of the book, he had righted some wrongs, taken out some bad guys, and was running for his life with a price on his head. He was a man to reckoned with. As this book begins, we see a decades younger Bob in the woods playing survival and hunting games created by his father - games that provide skills that will set him up to do well in the future both as a Marine and later in special black operations for the CIA.

When Bob shows up in New Orleans to give something to the parents of Jon Rice, a former teammate, it was meant to be a quick stop but instead he finds himself being pulled into preventing a plot to blockbust the community where Jon’s mother and stepfather live. There are motorcycle thugs, an unscrupulous lawyer, and a foreign-born casino owner in on the plot that need to be dealt with before Bob can head on down the road.

Will Bob be able to keep Wanda and Don safe while thwarting the blockbusting plot and if so, what will it require of him – mentally and physically? Who will be there that he can call on for help if anyone? And will he be able to determine what is required to solve the problems he is facing in New Orleans while also staying ahead of the people sent to take him out by the CIA?

This was an action-packed, fast-paced, thrill-ride from beginning to end. Once on the rollercoaster it was difficult to disembark for both Bob and for me. I would gladly tag along on Bob’s next adventure when it is made available.

Code Red by Ian Loome
Rogue Warrior Thriller #1

Action-packed thrill ride from beginning to end – Could not put it down!

What I liked:
* Bob: homeless, alcoholic, ex-Cia assassin, has a personal moral code, responsible, lethal, lost focus but might get it back, intriguing, have a feeling there is a lot more to him than we see in this first book
* Dawn: RN, works in free clinic in poor part of town, lost her son to gang violence, church goer and believer, sees the good in others, strong, caring, doesn’t like swearing, doesn’t give up
* Marcus: survivor, parents gunned down, dealing with trauma and stress, stronger than he realizes, has mechanical mind, would like to know more about him
* The plot and speed of the story telling
* That I was drawn in and my attention held from beginning to end as I rooted for the good guys
* Meeting some of the supporting characters and wondering which ones might show up in the future
* The action scenes
* The ability to see this book as a movie in the future
* Being able to hate the bad guys
* The twists and turns
* The setup for the books that will follow
* Reading a new-to-me-author that I thoroughly enjoyed

What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like
* Thinking about traitors and what might motivate them
* Knowing that there are evil people in the world who do what they want and also thinking about those in government that might not be as “good” as they would like others to believe they are

Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Yes

It’s not often that I would use movies as a reference but this book reminded me of a more PG version of Boondock Saints, except that it was set in Philadelphia, PA, instead of the Boston Area. The reason to why it reminds me of this movie is because of the fact that you’ve got a tight knit community. Where a bar or pub, whichever you prefer to call it, where your treated like family. And the good guy goes out to catch the bad guy that is messing with someone in his community, differences are that, Quinn isn't a vigilante, his father wasn't harmed in anyway, and it's only one guy instead of two. I think it was the tight knit community, and the pub, and the fact Quinn goes out and kicks some major tail. This is basically set in neighborhoods that are filled with Blue collar workers, most of them being cops whether retired or active.
What surprised me most is that Quinn, who is obviously the main character was an ex-boxer, ex-con, who loves art and painting. It’s not very often that you see character such as this. Which in the whole made it more intriguing to read this book; it starts off with him finishing up one of his cases. Then goes into where he picks up a major case, and then picks up another case which is slightly minor to the bigger case, also pays out more. With Quinn being an ex-con his job resources were highly limited so his childhood best friend’s dad, had given him a chance as an Insurance Investigator that only works on commission.
So he starts working on both cases the major one being an art gallery robbery, the minor being a robbery at a stadium, with about a dozen kegs stolen. Throughout this story Quinn meets up with some interesting characters and some quite scary (like mob scary). He runs through putting puzzle pieces together about both cases, plus kicking some major ass in the meantime, and all done without guns, quite masterful if you ask me. It’s like Jason Statham without his guns, but still kicking major ass.
All in all its one hell of a book, it’s got some crime drama, some mystery, some action, and it also kind of reminds me of Scooby-Doo when Velma figures out the bad guy and goes to unmask him. And I LOVE Scooby-Doo! This is not my typical genre that I read, but I’m going to say I am quite excited about Quinn’s next book. Wonder what trouble he’ll get himself into this time, and maybe JUST maybe he’ll finally tell Nora what he feels. So we shall see.
