I was in love with Morei long before I held the book in my hand.

I love the author's writing. Smooth and easy.

There were parts in the book which I rush to finish so that I can get to my favorite characters' POV (Morei haha

The Blood of the Lion is a must-read debut book in an epic fantasy saga!
4.5 stars rounded up!

It's always a bit of a challenge for me to get into these more epic fantasy stories, but once I got over that initial introduction to the world and characters, I was not disappointed! The world details and magic system were woven seamlessly into the story itself. I didn't feel like a ton of information was bogging down the plot at any given time, the writing never felt clunky or disjointed from the story itself. And, I absolutely love that each chapter is labelled with a chapter title, it's just a weird thing that I really enjoy :)

The story follows demon-touched King Morei, the first Dragon Rider, Cyrus (& his dragon Sozar) and Syra, a fugitive possessing the 'Demon Killer'; bouncing between their parts of the story with each new chapter. McKenna does a great job building each individual character and their story arc over this first book.

As a reader, I am completely bummed and completely excited that 'The Blood of the Lion' is the first in an obviously slow-burn epic fantasy series. With the twists and turns each character faces throughout and that cliff-hanger ending, I am definitely looking forward to the next installment!

Huge thank you CD McKenna for the e-ARC to read and honestly review! When will the next book be available? :)
