This book is along the lines of many nonfictions texts I have read in the past. There is a table of contents which lays out what each section of the book will be about and what pages it can be found on. The vocabulary in this book contain some words children in elementary school may not understand. The words students may not understand are laid out in the back of the book under "Your New Words" which helps readers to refer to when they do not understand a bold word while reading. I thought this book was awesome. I loved how it showed different sports and games that are played in so many different countries. For example, It shows that people in Africa, specifically Kenya play the game mancala and how boys in Brazil play soccer right on the beach. It also describes the game and shows pictures to help enhance an understanding of it. Secondly, I loved the pictures. They were actually pictures of people from the different countries and it shows how each person from different cultures dresses as well as what each country looks like. For example, the children in Africa are dressed in colorful clothes and the background of the picture shows what most African landscapes look like. Finally, at the end of the book there is a map that shows where each country mentioned in the book is located as well as a glossary for the new words presented in the book. The main theme of this book is to show many different games and where that are played and it's to show students that there is many games and sports than the ones they are used to.… (more)
