Book 2 of the SEPA Project trilogy. I received the first book through an early reviewers program. I often get free books in that way and then write the review, but I don't usually go on to purchase the sequels. You can find plenty of free books if you know where to look. But the first book was so good that I bought the second and third.

Quantou Rising starts with a new character - a Quantou (a mix of warrior/guard and servant) named Zeesha. This allows the main character, by reflecting on her life, to introduce new readers to the main points from book 1 without boring readers who already have that knowledge. Book 2 is mostly a story of rebellion - the secrets revealed in book 1 have led the cast of main characters (plus a few new ones) to decide they need to change things about their society. With all the revelations in the first book, the reader assumes there are no more secrets left, but more mysteries await in book 2. Some of them are predictable, and I had to wait for the characters to finally catch on. But other secrets re-reveal new depths of secrets we thought we had already learned.

The SEPA project is a great series, and I look forward to reading the third instalment.… (more)
