Musée Rodin

Destaques da maravilhosa coleção do Musée Rodin, em Paris.
O museu fica no Hôtel Biron e em seus jardins, também decorados com estátuas de Rodin. O Hôtel tem não só obras do grande escultor, mas de outros escultores (uma sala é dedicada a Camille Claudel), uma coleção de pintura (Van Gogh, Renoir, Monet, em uma sala dedicada à sua relação com Rodin), fotografias (inclusive a famosa série do Balzac de Steichen, sobre a qual Rodin teria dito: "Suas fotografias farão o mundo entender meu Balzac.") e antigüidades de várias origens.
Apesar de já ter visto duas exposições de Rodin em BH, ir ao Musée Rodin foi uma experiência completamente diferente. Não só pelas obras que eu não tinha visto e pelas coleções de obras que o próprio Rodin admirava, mas pela própria atmosfera, pela emoção de estar em um ambiente carregado de história e arte.

I purchased this at le Musée itself. It's the only museum (well, OK, one of the very few museums) I have visited where I had to look away, embarrassed, so other visitors couldn't see how emotionally involved I was with the art. Rodin has a way of presenting passion that speaks directly to me in a way that I can't fully prepare for or communicate.

This volume is the only one at the gift shop that I thought I could afford. It contains some very good representations of Rodin's incomparable art. Unlike other art books, which sit on my coffee table as little representations or misrepresentations of art in their own right, this volume is like a two dimensional sketchpad through which I can relive my experience of the three dimensional work of art; thus, I would not recommend it without first experiencing the sculpture on which it is based. I'm sorry if that sounds elitist -- I don't intend it that way -- but my God, if you somehow find yourself in Paris, don't miss this museum!… (more)
