This was a great story because it showed the reader what it means to accept oneself. Throughout the story the theme continues because Little Prickles the porcupine thinks that no one likes him, but realizes they were just keeping their distance. He tries to make new friends by giving all of his quills away for the other animals to use and ends up not looking like himself. The story promotes self-awareness and being able to accept who you are and what you look like. The hand drawn illustrations are a perfect compliment to the story because it is written and illustrated by 7th graders.… (more)

This is a story about a porcupine who feels no one wants to be his friend because his quills make him different. He gives all his quills away. The story features sharing, acceptance, loyalty and friendship.
Awards and Honors: Kids are Authors Award Winner, Written and Illustrated by seventh grade students of the Montessori Middle School
