This is a kind of coffee table book, coproduced by the Ministère de la Défense, resolutely aimed at the interested layman, to coincide with the centenary of 1914. So don't expect thorough analysis or too critical observations. That being said, it is very good for what it is. It does contain lots of information and is lavishly illustrated. Also, the authors remain level headed and point out failures and weaknesses of the army. If you are looking for an introduction to the subject, this is an excellent place to start.… (more)
