A very short work as the inaugural publication of Magnus Press. Carroll was a longtime bi-ritual priest and philosophy professor who had a long career in the San Francisco Bay Area at the Graduate Theological Union and the French Christian Brothers' Moraga campus, St Mary's College of California. Carroll had mentioned a few times in passing that he was working on several books at the same time but had not published any back then. This might the only one of his planned books to eventually see printing. The theme of the book is simple: that the Sacred Triduum forms the basis of all salvific action and how human women and men can embrace such a grace filled truth in an earthly life. The means by which this is expounded is by taking St Paul's Christological understanding and testing it under Jesus' own self-revelation and enlarging it from Jesus to God the Father and God the Holy Spirit. This book is typical of Carroll's lectures and seminar classes which were always challenging and needed further reflection and meditation time. This book is unusual in that it has both a Nihil Obstat and Imprimatur. For whatever reason, this designation is rare today in the publishing world. This book is appropriate for Holy Week as a devotional or as a study of philosophical and theological currents in the church's understanding of the Eucharistic sacrifice of the Mass. This book has a Forward by S. Cortright who is also a wonderful teacher in his own right. This book on Roman Catholicism is very highly recommended… (more)
