Gr 5–8—The summer between seventh and eighth grade challenges Lilla and her friends to be brave. For Lilla, that
means speaking up even when sharing her truth is terrifying. As she tries to be honest with her friends and family,
she struggles with sexism and harassment in horrible but all-too-common ways. This powerful narrative centering
female experiences and #MeToo conversations is essential.

There is a lot of saviour complex in this book. BUT I feel like Evie was given a lot of agency to make her own decisions and to prove her own capabilities. I did not feel like Evie needed a Prince Charming. I really appreciate how, au contraire, Evie didn't really look for a Prince Charming until she was already secure in her own mental health.

This was a cute read.

CW: anxiety, panic attacks, mother tries to medicate daughter without her knowledge/consent, bullying

But does there need to be as much miscommunication as frequently occurs in YA romances? There is certainly a degree of charm when two nervous people are scared to admit how they feel. This phase seems to last an awfully long time in some books though. That being said, I did like this novel. It was enjoyably quirky, and I feel like the anxiety rep was done quite well. The characters were quite engaging and the dynamics were entertaining. Pretty solid YA romance that made for a fun listen.… (more)

I was enjoying this. I think it was just the time in my life that I was reading it. I stepped away and my galley expired. Will I give this another try. Absolutely. I liked it. It was building into a sweet romance and I want to know how it ends.
