Short biography
Krisztina Passuth was born in Budapest, Hungary, a daughter of writer László Passuth. She studied history and art history at Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE). In 1962, she became curator of the Hungarian National Gallery, and in 1966 was named curator of the Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest. In 1977, she left for France, where she worked for the Centre Georges-Pompidou, and became curator of the Musée d'art moderne de la ville de Paris. She gained international recognition for her expertise on 20th-century European avant-garde art. In 1992, she returned to Hungary and became professor with a chair in art history at her alma mater, ELTE. She received the Széchenyi Prize from the Hungarian government in 2010 for outstanding contributions to academic life in Hungary. Her books include Art du XXe siècle (1978), Moholy-Nagy (1985), and Les Avant-Gardes de l'Europe centrale, 1907-1927 ( 1987).
