This is a selection of discrete battle pieces, not a connected history of the war. The essays are concise and present the chosen actions and their lessons clearly. Its value for money, especially if second-hand.

Baring Pemberton (read 21 Nov 1975) This is a study of five battles of the Boer War: Belmont (Nov 23, 1899, a British victory under Metheun; Modder River (Nov. 28, 1899), also a British victory under Metheun; Magersfontein (Dec 11, 1899), a British defeat under Metheun; Colenso (Dec. 14, 1899), a British defeat under Buller; and Spion Kop (Jan 1900), another British defeat. This book whetted my interest in the Boer War, and I did some good reading on it, including Good-Bye Dolly Gray, by Rayne Kruger (read 29 Dec 1975)..… (more)

Very much a British perspective on battles in whichthe British Army played the major role rather than a balanced accont of the war as a whole.
