This fairly new mystery takes place in, of all exotic places, Indiana! Let's hear it for the heartland. Our faithful and typically uncareful protagonist is the local newspaper editor in a farm community outside Indianapolis; all the characters are reasonably satisfying, the mystery good, with red herrings that turn out to be from the same school of fish after all. It's either a one-off or the first of a series (not mentioned on the work page). I liked it a lot, especially as it was a Kindle deal and I had no real expectations. Let's say 3.5 stars, more if it becomes the first of many.… (more)
