This collection of essays reflects the largely unproblematic changes in Islamic societies as consumerism becomes more prominent. The tension here is typically resolved not by demonizing the capitalist incursions as a Western hegemony, but more often, for most, finding a way to merge the two and forge a uniquely Muslim style of consumption. The essays, however, do not discuss those who do not favor the religious changes that these economic practices provoke.
