Apparently this was published during WWI to raise funds for the "Work For Women Fund". Princess Mary gave her name to it, presumably as her contribution to gain sales.
I listened to the Librivox audiobook, so I missed out on the illustrations. I'm guessing that had I seen these, especially in the original hardcopy, I would have given the book four stars.
This is both a wartime book, and a book for the whole family. There are amusing stories and poems for the youngsters of the household, as show more well as serious tales for the adults. show less
