This is a biography of Joachim Raff (1822-1882), a German composer who was celebrated during his lifetime but whose music fell into undeserved neglect after his death, written by his daughter. His music has experienced a renaisssance in the past 40 years thanks to the pioneering efforts of Bernard Herrmann (the great film composer) among others. As Helene Raff seems to have known everyone who was anyone in late 19th and early 20th century Germany, this book is a fascinating look at not only musicians, but painters, sculptors, writers, poets, and many others who played a role in the cultural life of that country. This book was translated and published privately by the Raff Society (www.raff.org). Please visit their excellent site to purchase this book and to learn more about Joachim Raff.… (more)
