One of the few full length biographies available in English, even if somewhat dated now. Good sources for understanding the man and the background to his writings. An enjoyable read which prepares you for reading his works. Not as good as the comprehensive recent biography on him in Dutch , and it will be interesting to see if this or the forthcoming intellectual biography of him gets translated into English but a valuable resource for English speaking scholars.
