- Lois Scharf took her Ph.D. with David Van Tassel in 1977, served as the executive director of National History Day, taught a wide variety of courses, including American labor history, women's history, and sports history, and has published three books, most recently Eleanor Roosevelt: First Lady of American Liberalism (1987). She retired from teaching in 1996.
