A short story about a woman's personal relationship with God - VERY personal - and what happens once that relationship ends. I liked this one a lot. It felt like exactly the right degree of blasphemy to me (granted, I am not a Christian - nor even a believer in the Judeo-Christian God, so my perspective on the "right" amount of blasphemy may be different from others'.) But I really liked that this worked on multiple levels. On the one hand, it was a relatable story about a regular breakup, made absurdly funny by the fact that the other half of the breakup was God. But on the other hand, it also totally worked as an extended metaphor about finding and losing faith and religion (the whole phone conversation where you don't want to admit to your parents that you've broken up with God, for example), and that was a very fun, subtle, interesting balance.… (more)
