This book does just what it says on the cover. It's an amusing and whimsical description of life as an allotmenteer. In among is really good advice, and quite tempting recipes. I shall return to it when I come to take possession of a plot, in about six months time, and expect to find it useful.

This is a delightful little book on allotments. Sexton has written a book that has monthly tasks, foods to harvest, seeds to sow and a recipe for a seasonal food every month. For me the most interesting part was the select diary entries that begin each chapter. These are about the people and characters that she chats and interacts with on her allotment and a slightly plant mad friend who she sees on a regular basis. She is a little bit of a plant addict, and always seems to end up buying far more plants and seeds than she really needs. There is a melancholy bit when a resident who has her grandfathers plot decides to leave, but they are a charming set of anecdotes.

Worth reading if you are considering getting an allotment.

Enjoyable, but took a little while to connect together. The recipes look good and I hope to try a few when my allotments start producing this summer. Many of the political tips are for beginners and mostly for council allotments - none of it applies to my two quirky set-ups, but a friend of mine with a council plot is eager to borrow it. The human side is almost more interesting and very amusing.
