The book is a very good first kind of reference to not only the 14th century of merry old England, but is similarly a good reference to the beginning medieval recreational person, whither for just fun or something of a more serious side. Bonus for me, a happy accident that I read Will McLean's blog.

This book's target audience is the historical re-enactor. I found it rather simplistic, with some errors; it could be useful as a quickie intro for someone who knows nothing of the period, but it shouldn't be the only thing one reads.

One thing I found annoying is that while it is titled "Elizabethan England," it is really about "Shakespearean England;" it only covers the late reign and into the 17th century. It also recommends novels and movies as sources, including Blackadder!
